The Space Option Star (S⊕S) is a Space Solar Power (SSP) demonstrator which represents a logical early step in the Astrostrom development program.

The S⊕S mission has a dual purpose:

1. Its technical mission represents a early demonstration of energy from space technologies
2. Its communication mission is to raise public awareness about the potential of the Space Energy Option to address the energy and climate crises

201 ideas were submitted in ESA’s 2020 call for new mission ideas. S⊕S was one of four energy from space projects selected as a potential technical demonstration.
