Space Solar Power
Space Settlement Progress
Swiss company Astrostrom GMBH, headed by astronautical artist and researcher Arthur R. Woods, has presented an ambitious plan to provide power from space. Space Solar is a company established in the UK as a commercial entity for ownership and delivery of the Space-Based Solar power development programme as outlined in Space Energy Initiative. The ESA SOLARIS Space-based Solar Power Initiative will consist of system studies, technology developments, stakeholder engagement and research activities to mature the technical, economic and programmatic feasibility of Space-based Solar Power (SBSP) for terrestrial clean energy needs

Greater Earth (GE⊕) Lunar Power Station
Space Settlement Progress
GE⊕-LPS would demonstrate feasibility for several key technologies needed for a cislunar economy and is envisioned to provide a hub of operations in the Greater Earth environment. Eventually, the system could be scaled up to provide clean energy for the Earth as humanity transitions away from fossil fuel consumption later this century.

Using energy from space to power in situ resource processing on the Moon
Space Settlement Progress
Other groups like Swiss-based Astrostom GMBH with their Greater Earth Lunar Power Station are already working on SBSP solutions to provide ample power for lunar surface settlements which could provide sufficient electricity for Waterloo’s ISRP technology. The Astrostom approach would place the power satellite at the L1 Earth-Moon Lagrange point, a location between the Earth and Moon at a distance of 60,000 km above lunar surface. Although not a gravitationally stable location, the station would could maintain a fixed point above a lunar ground station on the Moon’s nearside with minimal station keeping propulsion systems.

Space presents the final frontier for energy
Verdict
The ESA has been developing satellite technology to convert the Sun’s energy in space and transmit it back to the Earth. Finally, researchers in Switzerland have worked on a campaign for clean space energy. This includes a Greater Earth Lunar Power Station, which is a solar power satellite constructed primarily from lunar resources.
The Lunar Power Station would be made up of Moon-manufactured solar cells that beam down power to receivers on the moon’s surface for future activities on the moon.

Solar energy beamed to Earth from Moon-made butterfly satellite 'cost competitive', space chiefs told
Recharge News
Butterfly-shaped satellites made on the Moon could one day beam “cost competitive” gigawatt-scale solar energy back to Earth, according to a futuristic study of space-based energy prepared for the European Space Agency (ESA).
The study by Swiss company Astrostrom initially proposes producing a kilometre-wide satellite that would be manufactured on the lunar surface before being launched into the Moon’s orbit.

ESA SOLARIS in Brussels
LinkedIn: Solaris
Recent studies have repeatedly shown that Space-based Solar Power could be a a major driver of European space development in all the key capability areas that are considered as needed to level-up Europe to being a global space power. These include low-cost, high-cadence launch, high-power energy generation, very large-scale infrastructure development, robotic assembly/manufacturing, wireless power beaming, in-space transportation, servicing and recycling as well as 'workers in space' and the industrialisation of the Moon for the production and launch of Solar Power Satellite hardware.

ARTEMIS DELAYS AND ESA: CONNECTING THE DOTS
Space Watch Global
Recent ESA Solaris studies have clearly established the techno-economic connection between Artemis-driven Moon ISRU and a viable SBSP-driven space economy leveraging the Earth energy markets and the urgency to decarbonize.
While current consequences of Artemis accumulated delays appear manageable for NASA’s foreign partners, starting with ESA, that doesn’t mean they should be encouraged, leading to open-ended postponement of Artemis.
Furthermore, NASA to give up on SBSP because it requires too many rockets sends the message that the nation is not taking SBPS seriously (on the contrary of Japan, China, India, the UAE, the UK, and Europe) Both issues are linked, we need Artemis, and we need American leadership in SBSP.

Financial Times: How to make space-based solar power a reality
Financial Times
“We fully expect it will be a big challenge — like nuclear or wind farms — to convince people to have this in their backyard,” says ESA’s Vijendran. “That may be the largest challenge of all.” Some projects propose attaching the receiving antenna to offshore wind farms, where grid connections already exist, to help to dampen public concerns. This has to be driven as an energy project that has a large space element,” says Vijendran. “We are trying to have [the energy sector] take it over as soon as possible.”
